Aukey PA-T11 Review: One Station To Rule Them All

Nowadays, we tend to have more than one gadgets. Most of us, I reckon, have at least one smartphone and one power bank (and probably a tablet). Imagine living in a house with more people, and that number rises. If each of us use a single adapter for each of our device, how many outlets do we need? Many. And I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want to put extension terminal everywhere in your house, right?

Enter the Aukey PA-T11, a multi-port USB charging station. It has enough USB port to charge 6 of your devices with a single outlet. Also, it supports Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0 standard for those who think that the standard 2A charging is too slow.

It looks simple and convenient. But is that all? Well, let’s find out in this Aukey PA-T11 review article. Shall we?

Packaging and Design

The box is already as heavy as it is.

There’s not much to say about the box. You can flip open the front, revealing the charging station, along with some of its key features written.

The accessory itself is quite heavy, though. Inside, you’ll find not only the essentials (PA-T11, AC cable, a bunch of papers), but also a USB-A to micro USB cable. Well, at least you won’t have to buy an extra micro USB cable.

The PA-T11 blocky design actually looks good in your desk, by the way. The black color blends pretty well with pretty much any surface: work desk, bedside table, coffee table, etc. Now, let’s take a closer look at what it offers.

On the back, there’s the DC input port. On the right side, there’s a small LED which indicates power. There’s nothing else on the right or the sides.

The star of the show is definitely the front, where you have 6 USB ports. 2 of which complies to Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0 standard (colored orange). So yeah, this station is capable for topping up your gadgets quickly. The rest is pretty standard, charging at 5V / 2.4A spec.

All in all, the design of the PA-T11 is simple and elegant. The addition of a USB cable inside the box is nice, so you don’t have to buy another cable.

Experience

With nothing else to discuss but the usage, let’s skip ahead. When I was writing this review, I coincidentally have 2 devices that support Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0: Xiaomi Mi5 and Xiaomi Mi Note 2. Usually, a station like this divides the input electricity to each port, so I was skeptical that both would be fast-charged.

However, I was pleasantly proven wrong. Using an app named Ampere, which can roughly measure the input current, both devices were quick-charged (4.X V and >2.5A). Another way to know is that MIUI’s latest ROM lets you know if your device is being quick-charged (if your device supports it, of course…) through either your lockscreen, or the charging icon on the top notification bar.

In case you’re wondering, the QC3.0 port is backward-compatible, meaning it will revert to the usual 5V/2.4A spec when the device plugged into it doesn’t support QC3.0. I tested this with a Zenfone 3 using Ampere and there didn’t seem to be any difference whether I use the orange or green port.

Additionally, I was also able to charge my iPad at the same time, and that doesn’t seem to slow down the previous two devices. I don’t have enough devices to fill all the ports, but based on my experience, I’m pretty confident that all devices will be charged as quickly as the others.

Conclusion

Aukey PA-T11 is a versatile and affordable charging station.

At roughly IDR 450,000 (~U$33), you get a charging station which can charge up to 6 devices simultaneously (two of which is Qualcomm’s QC3.0). If that isn’t a good deal, I don’t know what is, especially if you have multiple devices, and you travel often. Rather than bringing one AC adapter per device, why not just carry this PA-T11? I know I will.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found any flaw on this accessory… yet (it’s unfortunate because it makes as if this is a one-sided review). I’ve used it for approximately a month and I still love it. In fact, I’ve shelved my AC adapters in favor of this charging station. So yeah, if you need an accessory that can fast-charge many devices at once, I’ll gladly recommend the Aukey PA-T11.
